Confessions of a Lash Artist - "She Glued Her Eye Shut with Nail Glue"

I had lashed a full Wednesday when I had finally gotten home around 7pm just in time to get my kids ready for bed when I got a text from a client. “911 emergency” it read.

I was on Facetime with my grandma so I texted this client back (who hadn’t been in for an appointment in 10 days) so I had no idea what to expect. She’s been a client for 5 years so we’ve gotten close and I thought maybe it was something on a personal level instead of lashes.

She started Facetiming me and I thought, “what the heck is going on?” so I answered and her face was wet and from the shoulders up. She looked like she didn’t even have clothes on.

She started crying to me that she had gotten out of the shower and went to grab what she thought was eye drops, but was actually NAIL GLUE and put a couple drops in her eye. When it hit her eyeball she knew immediately it didn’t feel right and slammed her eye shut.

As a lash artist you can imagine my immediate horror, since slamming her eye shut meant her waterline would be glued together. She said she then proceeded to run the eye under water and (as you and I know probably curing the glue and making it worse) I died listening to the story with her one shut eye.

“What do I do?!” she yelled, I responded telling her she should go into an urgent care or hospital. She begged me to see if I could do anything. The liability factor playing out in my head I told her to send me a picture of the ingredients in the nail glue. Her husband sent me a photo and sure enough it was cyanoacrylate so I told her I’d meet her at the salon in 20 minutes if she promised not to sue me if she went blind lol!

Fast forward, I spent an hour until 9pm putting (shout out to Borboleta) remover on her eye and picking apart lashes because the entire middle to outer corner was a huge solid chunk of glued together lashes and the whole waterline was glued together.
