If you’re struggling, here’s the advice 7 Lash Artists would give you right now:

At some point, almost every lash artist hits a phase where nothing feels like it’s working. You feel behind.  You start comparing. You question if you’re even cut out for this.

So we asked our ALA Ambassadors:

“If you could give one piece of advice to a lash artist struggling right now… what would it be?”

Here’s what they said.

“You’re Not Behind, You’re in the Process”

This came up again and again in different ways:

“You are not behind. You are in process. Those are not the same thing.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

“There is no universal timeline… your path doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.”

— Tracie, ALA Ambassador

“You are at the pace you need to be, it’s not a race.”

— Gloria, ALA Ambassador

It’s easy to compare your beginning to someone else’s peak. But what you don’t see is the empty books, the slow growth, and the mistakes that built their skill.

“You see the fully booked artists… but not the long nights practicing and redo sets that got them there.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

Focus Small, That’s How You Grow Fast. When you feel stuck, the instinct is to look at everything at once. That’s usually what makes it worse.

“Zero in on what you love about the industry and just focus on that for a bit.”

— Chyrell, ALA Ambassador

“If you feel stuck, zoom in instead of zooming out. Focus on the next improvement, not the whole mountain.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

Growth comes from stacking small improvements:

  • refine your technique
  • improve one part of your client experience
  • take one class
  • upgrade your photos

“Small upgrades compound.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

Consistency > Talent

“Most artists who make it are not the most naturally talented. They are the most consistent.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

“Get those reps in… the more full sets you do, the faster you’ll hit your goals.”

— Claudia, ALA Ambassador

“Consistency is key.”

— Claudia, ALA Ambassador

“Consistency will always outlast comparison.”

— Tracie, ALA Ambassador

“Develop one skill at a time until you can do it forwards and backwards.”

— Gloria, ALA Ambassador

There’s No One ‘Right Way’ to Do This

“I used to think there were strict ‘rules’… like there was a lash police watching every move.”

— Cyndi, ALA Ambassador

“I realized lash artistry is both a science and an art… there’s room for individuality and creativity.”

— Cyndi, ALA Ambassador

Success doesn’t come from copying someone else perfectly. It comes from education, experience, and building confidence in your own approach. And you don’t have to do this alone.

“Don’t let fear, self-doubt, or comparison overwhelm you.”

— Chyrell, ALA Ambassador

“Find a friend in the industry and connect… we are more about community than competition.”

— Chyrell, ALA Ambassador

Most lash artists don’t struggle because they lack skill, they struggle because they’re trying to figure everything out on their own.

Final Thoughts:

“If you’re still here, still caring, still trying to improve… you are closer than you think.”

— Caylien, ALA Ambassador

Your breakthrough often comes right after the moment you questioned everything. That’s exactly why we built the American Lash Association.

Not just for education, but for support, clarity, and connection with people who actually understand this industry.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or behind… you’re not the only one. And you don’t have to figure it out alone.
